This year I chose to travel alone and spend most of the trip exploring in and around Brig. Brig is a medium size town in Southern Switzerland near the Italian border in the alps. It is located in the Rhöne Valley and is the "gateway" to Zermatt, home of the Matterhorn. This is my favorite part of Switzerland - where I feel the most "at home". There are literally hundreds of miles of hiking trails in this region, and Zürich is only about two hours away by train via Bern. I stayed at the Hotel Europe which is just across from the railway station in Brig. Its nothing fancy, but clean and in a great location for travel by train.
The weather was not entirely cooperative on my trip and I had to modify my original plans several times. I am still in the process of editing the photos, captions and text descriptions - I should be done in a few days. You will know because these sentences will be removed!!
A link to my Alltrails recording of each hike is provided if you want to see the route and details. I've added links to the various places, restaurants, and activities that provide additional information.
